60-foot dead fin whale washes up on Ocean City beach

A 60-foot long deceased fin whale was discovered Monday beached on Ocean City’s Seventh Street beach, according to Bob Schoelkopf, the founding director of the Marine Mammal Stranding Center (MMSC).

The MMSC located in Brigantine, is assisting with the removal of the whale along with the City of Ocean City.

Schoelkopf said that his crews received the call about the whale Monday afternoon, and arrived on-site by 1 p.m.

The whale was dead upon the MMSC crew’s arrival.

It was clear that the whale had been dead for some time, Schoelkopf said.
