Ties are order of the day in Brambley Golf Tournament

OCEAN CITY – It was a great day for golf on Monday, May 7, as 20 golfers enjoyed the facilities at the Ocean City Municipal Golf Course participating in the Brambley League.

The order of the day was ties, as eight golfers tied for first place honors in the two flights.

Rich Hawthorne led the way in Flight A with a gross 42 for a net 34, while Walt Szczurek carded a 44 to reach his net 34. Fred Marcel, in his first round of the new season, carded a 47 for a net 34 in Flight A as did Dean Birth, who has won multiple times already this year.

In Flight B (15 handicap and above), Steve Raslavich, Dave Wagner, and Elaine Rearden all turned in 50s to net out at 35 (two under par) and share first place with George Walters, who was one stroke back in gross score but reached 35 also for his net score. This was the first outing of the year for Steve, Dave, and Elaine so they all began the season on a winning note with Fred.

This has to be a record for eight folks to share first place, and it left no compensation for second place performers this week despite playing net rounds under par. Joe Dollymore and Bob Schauer were just a stroke away in Flight A with net 35s while Walt Thompson just missed out in Flight B with a net 36.

You may rent golf carts and golfing equipment, such as clubs, golf bags, golf bag carriers, etc, at the Pro Shop any time it is open. Your handicapper suggests that if you want to get a golf cart, you come early on Mondays.

We also have available at the Pro Shop golf shirts commemorating the 20 years of Brambley Golf League, founded by 90-year-old Dick Brambley, a golf legend in Ocean City area. Many senior golfers continue his tradition by playing into their later years. The T-shirts are only $15 for league members.

All those who have played in the tournament in prior years are welcome back for the 2012 season. Tee times are 8 to 10 a.m. for the Brambley on Mondays. Those who have never played with us but would like to play golf with a great group of men and women are welcome to join us after establishing their handicap the first time they play in the tournament. Our next tournament will be May 14.
