To the Editor:
The election is over and BYOB is dead for another generation. I’m glad I heard the debate. One thing I learned was that the issue was not really about alcohol consumption or saving restaurants. It was about identity. One side said expand your brand and attract more people. The other said preserve your brand and let those people who don’t like it go somewhere else.
Although the “Don’t Change Ocean City” people got my vote, there is one question they left me with. What are you going to do now? Are you going to continue to boycott restaurants who disagreed with you? Christianity also has deep roots in the Ocean City brand. Are you going to open forgiving arms to those same neighbors and recognize them as part of our community? Or are you going to indulge your need to punish the apostates who dared to raise the question? Either way, someone is watching you.
