THE HANDICAPPER II
OCEAN CITY – It was a cloudy, wet day for golf on Monday, May 14, as 13 golfers played the facilities at the Ocean City Municipal Golf Course participating in the Brambley League.
Five sub-par rounds with handicaps were turned in with each winning a place in the tournament. Heading the winners this week was Joe McGrail, a relative newcomer with us, who posted a net 27 to win B Flight. Walt Thompson was second in B Flight with a net 32.
George Clements had the best gross score of the day to win A Flight with a net 28, the lowest net of the year so far for A Flight. Rich Hawthorne and Walt Szczurek tied for second place in A Flight with net 35s, two under par, completing the under par net rounds for the day.
George Clements, Joe Dollymore and Fred Marcell all had birdies in separate groups to add some excitement to the round.
On Monday, May 21, conditions were even worse resulting in only two golfers playing.
You may rent golf carts and golfing equipment, i.e. clubs, golf bags, golf bag carriers, etc, at the Pro Shop any time they are open. Your handicapper suggests that if you want to get a golf cart, you come early on Mondays.
We also have available at the Pro Shop golf shirts commemorating the 20 years of Brambley Golf League, founded by 90-year old Dick Brambley, a golf legend in Ocean City area. Many senior golfers continue his tradition by playing into their later years. The tee shirts are only $15 for league members.
All those who have played in the tournament in prior years are welcome back for the 2012 season. Tee times are 8 to 10 a.m. for the Brambley on Mondays. Those who have never played with us but would like to play golf with a great group of men and women are welcome to join us after establishing their handicap the first time they play in the tournament.
Our next tournament will be Wednesday, May 30. This is a two-day delay because of Memorial Day.
