Published in the June 20, 2012 issue

By THE HANDICAPPER II

OCEAN CITY – It has been four weeks since we have published a result from the Brambley Golf League and, despite the weather conditions, we have lots of avid golfers who became winners.

On Wednesday, May 30, we had eight golfers play, with Walter Szczurek leading the way in A Flight (14 handicap and below) with a net 33, while John Bozarth took first place in Flight B with a net 34. George Clements was second in A Flight with a net 34 while Jeanne Robinson took second place in B Flight with a net 40.

The following Monday, Walt Szczurek again led the way in A Flight with a net 32, to pace the 18 golfers who came out. Murph Styer returned to lead B Flight with a net 35. Ties were the order of the day with Bob Schauer and Joe Dollymore tying for second place in A Flight with net 37s and Walt Thompson and Bill Kruger tying in B Flight with net 36s. Third place was even more congested with Tony Cornell, George Clements and Dean Birth tying in A Flight with net 38s and Jack Donahoe and Joe McGrail tying in B Flight with net 37s.

Twenty-four golfers came out on June 11, with Jack Rearden leading the way in A Flight with a net 31, followed by Fred Marcell with a net 33 and John Kemenosh in third place in A Flight with a 34. Joe McGrail put together a fine net 24 to capture first place in B Flight while Walt Thompson got second place with a net 32 and Carol Boland secured third with net 35.

Thirty golfers, including one new golfer, came out on June 18 to enjoy the fine weather and participate in the Brambley. Derek Rearden and George Walters paced the field with net 29s to take first place in A and B Flights respectively. Dean Birth took second place in A Flight with a net 30 while Phyllis Bray got second in B with a net 29. Craig Gault took third place in A with a net 34 while Homer Gerken secured third place in B Flight with a net 33.

You may rent golf carts and golfing equipment, such as clubs, golf bags, golf bag carriers, at the Pro Shop any time it is open. Your handicapper suggests that if you want to get a golf cart, you come early on Mondays.

We also have available at the Pro Shop golf shirts commemorating the 20 years of Brambley Golf League, founded by 90-year-old Dick Brambley, a golf legend in Ocean City area. Many senior golfers continue his tradition by playing into their later years. The tee shirts are only $15.

All those who have played in the tournament in prior years are welcome back for the 2012 season. Tee times are 8 to 10 a.m. for the Brambley on Mondays. Those who have never played with us but would like to play golf with a great group of men and women are welcome to join us after establishing their handicap the first time they play in the tournament.

Our next tournament will be Monday, June 25. We will have a special event on June 25, where golfers will be allowed to use up to three mulligans per round at $1 per mulligan. Scores should be low.
