OCEAN CITY – This was our first really busy week of the 2012 season. We played our regular morning and afternoon games on Monday, June 11. We had both state and club meetings on Tuesday.
Then on Friday, we had our first “Super Six” of the season. In this format, we each play six games with random partners, against random opponents. These games are always well attended and are a lot of fun. Winning all six games were Tom Illiucci and Bette Wray. Ken Clarke won five games, followed by Howard Fisher with four wins. Walt Peppelman, Dorothy Dougherty, Carole Clark, Alec Helm and I all won three games.
This week we will play our regular games Monday, Wednesday and Friday. On Tuesday, June 19, we played our first state tournament of the season, the Opening State Draw Doubles. The results will be in this column next week.
On Wednesday at 2 p.m., we sponsor a free shuffleboard clinic. These are always a lot of fun. You will learn the rules, scoring and basic strategies of the game. It is open to anyone over six years old. Bring out the kids and have a great time.
The Ocean City Shuffleboard Club is located on Fifth Street and the Boardwalk. Our courts are open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day during the summer. The use of the courts and equipment is always free. To participate in club activities and tournaments, you must be a member of the club. Club membership is only $5 per year. What a great way to meet new friends and have fun competition all summer long.
See you at the courts.
