ASA MEN’S SOFTBALL

Three-time defending champion Shore Title Waves continued their winning ways by defeating the Stranglers 20-14, as the new FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) team beat Gregory’s Bar 12-5. The high-powered Stranglers team trounced McMahon Agency 23-7. Steve Klapy hit two ground-rule doubles over the short right field fence and a 400-foot home run to pace the Stranglers. Erick Lora, Mark Elliott and Pat Hoffman each had 3 hits for the losing team.

The Men’s Summer Basketball League is under way with games at the Sixth Street courts by the Civic Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 to 10 p.m. Ready’s Coffee Shop is heading the Eastern Boardwalk Conference and the Tuckahoe Bike Shop is on top of the Western Offshore Conference with a 2-0 records.

Last week’s action featured Tuckahoe Bike Shop beating OC FMBA #27, 82-62. Christian Taylor’s (OCHS) team had Matt Byrnes and Ricky Fetske (Stockton) each scoring 26. The FMBA team’s Luke Peterson hit 26. Tuckahoe also beat the Laguna Grill team 78-67, with Matt Byrnes putting up 30 for the winners and Dustin Henry pacing the losers with 25.

Ready’s Coffee Shop beat OC Dental 67-60, with Manny Valentine scoring 24 for Ready’s and Glenn Pratt 15 for the Dental team. Laguna Grill beat FMBA 76-69, with Dustin Henry scoring the league-high 39 points. Troy Beck hit 24 for the losing team.

Heist Insurance, with Thomas Hallihan’s 17, topped Prudential 77-52. John Davidson’s 21 and Matt Whitworth’s 17 paced the losing team. Ford Scott upset the Clam Bar 70-57, as Frank Champion’s 16 and Bobby Edmunds’s 15 led the strong CPA team while AJ Harris (OCHS) led the losing team.

Playland Cove’s Tim McDaniels hit 31, clobbering onthebeach.com 91-51. Ready’s upset Manco and Manco 51-47 as Steve Costa scored 22 for Ready’s and John Mimmo 15 and Jose Gonzales (St Augustine HS) managed 10. The defending champion, Robert Coste Builders, beat John’s Barber Shop (the young grads from Holy Spirit) 76-71 with 6’7” Ricky Crews (Holy Family College) hitting the 20-point mark while Brian Slotteroff scored 18 for the John’s. Coste Builders were upset by the young Rauhausers Candies 52-46 using stellar defense.

Atlantic County Baseball League: Ocean City won its first game 7-2 over Egg Harbor Township, as Max Bell only gave up three hits. O.C. scored 6 runs in the fifth inning. The Khoury brothers each had two hits with Rich Carlucci hitting a 2-run homer.
