STRATHMERE — Public works crews in June buried a massive humpback whale that washed up on the beach near the center of town.

There were few other options, according to township engineer Paul Dietrich. The animal had been dead in the water for some time. It was too large to remove from the beach or drag far. The animal washed up Thursday, June 6, on a sunny day.
