REVIEW: Ocean City Pops picks a great way to end the 2019 season

OCEAN CITY – On Wednesday, Sept. 11, Ocean City Pops guest conductor Vince Lee featured the orchestra itself and representative virtuoso instrumentalists, proof of why the total orchestra is so fine.   Tenor Cody Austin, who has appeared with the Pops for a dozen years, completed the sterling evening.

OCEAN CITY — Saturday night was very much alive at the Music Pier as “American Idol” finalist LaKisha Jones brought her high style and indefatigable command to 13 solid rock standards. Not only did the audience dance and sing with her, but even some Ocean City Pops classical musicians were lip-syncing and swaying along.

Linwood marks National Night Out

The Linwood Police Department and city of Linwood hosted National Night Out events Tuesday, Aug. 6, at All Wars Memorial Field. Children were treated to free food and games, a police K-9 demonstration and a visit from a helicopter, while adults perused the tables set up by various service agencies and local organizations.

Pops becomes a big band; then it was time for Bernstein and Robbins

OCEAN CITY – Sunday night the strings of Ocean City Pops had the night off as a five-piece saxophone section supplemented an enlarged brass contingent and rhythm section to back jazz singer and pianist Tony DeSare.  DeSare wowed the audience with a variety of smooth crooning, high energy and amazing talent.  He served as his own musical director, moving from piano to band cues to hard-drive singing, setting the pace and controlling the flow of the show.

Voting by donations ends July 25 for the 2018 Night In Venice queen

OCEAN CITY – The queen who will lead the Night in Venice Boat Parade on July 28 is chosen by monetary votes in local collection boxes featuring her photo. The boxes with the faces of the dozen queen candidates are spread throughout Ocean City. Votes (donations) decide the winner and the proceeds of the voting will be donated this year to the OCHS After Prom Party, Sunshine Foundation and O.C. Food Cupboard.   Voting ends at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 25. The winner is crowned at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 25, at the Ocean City Tabernacle. At 5:30 p.m., prior to the crowning, contestants will parade in convertibles on the Boardwalk from Fifth Street to 14th Street.
