OCEAN CITY — At 3 a.m. Dec. 15, 1901, the Sindia, a 329-foot, four-masted sailing barque owned by John D. Rockefeller, was 300 feet from shore off 17th Street in Ocean City.

The ship foundered off the coast and struck a sandbar, taking a permanent place in Ocean City.
