OCEAN CITY – Antonella DiAntonio is looking forward to being a role model to young girls.

She will do that as the newly-crowned Little Miss Ocean City 2020.

DiAntonio was chosen from among 24 contenders for the title Friday night, Aug. 16, at the Ocean City Music Pier.

The girls, aged 8 to 11 years old, competed in interview, talent and poise and composure.

DiAntonio, 11, is going into sixth grade at Ocean City Intermediate School. She and her younger sister, Arianna, 9, are both dancers. They showed off their dancing abilities on the stage.

Antonella walked off with the Little Miss Ocean City title (and the interview and scholastic awards) and Arianna won the talent part of the competition.

“I love performing,” DiAntonio said. “Dance is my passion. I couldn’t see myself without it in my life.”

The daughter of Angelina and Anthony DiAntonio, Antonella was floored when she learned she won the title. She couldn’t hold back her tears on stage and even afterwards as she was congratulated by the other contestants and had her photograph taken.

“I just can’t believe it. I’m overwhelmed and excited,” she said. “I am so happy I was given this opportunity.”

Her favorite part of the pageant, in addition to being able to perform before an audience, was “being behind the scenes with everybody and having fun.”

During her coming year as an ambassador for Ocean City, DiAntonio is looking forward to “meeting everybody and just making everybody happy. I really want to become a role model for younger kids. I am so excited for Night In Venice and for Wacky Wednesdays. I just cannot wait.”

Her mother, Angelina, said watching both of her daughters compete was “a beautiful experience. I cried the whole entire night. They were so excited and loved every second. They live for dance and the stage.

“I am so excited,” she added. “My mom is going to be so excited because she used to be a pageant mom. This is a big opportunity. I am really excited for them. I am very proud. I’m looking forward to seeing them thrive and interact with all the people and their friends.”

Ava Grundy, 10, who performed a baton-twirling act, was the first runner-up. Kai Linthicum, 10, a dancer, was second runner-up; third runner-up Sarah Avellino, 10, sang, and fourth runner-up Georgia Little, 11, did a dance routine.
