History: Resort banned alcohol sales in 1909, rejected BYOB in 2012

OCEAN CITY – Ocean City’s relationship with alcohol goes back to the town’s founding and continues through restrictive Blue Laws, Prohibition, and a failed citizen-driven referendum.

In 1879 four Methodist ministers, Ezra Lake, James Lake, S. Wesley Lake and William Burrell, established a Christian retreat and camp akin to one established at Ocean Grove.
