TRENTON – Gov. Phil Murphy signed legislation Aug. 9 that amends the transient accommodations law signed last year to provide relief for homeowners who rent their properties directly.

Under the law, a transient accommodation will only be subject to taxes and fees if the rental is obtained through a marketplace. A transient space marketplace is defined as a marketplace or travel agency that offers short-term entails and also provides a means for reserving and paying for the rental – such as online marketplaces like Airbnb and VRBO (Vacation Rentals By Owners).
