SOMERS POINT — Somers Point City Council banned covered stores from providing single-use plastic bags in the city, to the relief of many people who spoke in favor of the plastic bag bans and fees during the meeting.

In a 4-3 vote, council banned single-use bags Thursday, Sept. 12, after some members of council expressed concerns about the single-use plastic bag fee. In January, an ordinance imposing a 5-cent fee on single-use plastic bags went into effect in the city. On Thursday, Aug. 22, the city council introduced the ordinance to ban the bags.
