Underwater demolition on old Beesleys Point bridge - Ocean City Sentinel: News

Underwater demolition on old Beesleys Point bridge

An underwater demolition team set charges earlier this week on one of the remaining parts of the old Beesleys Point bridge that used to connect Somers Point and Upper Township via Route 9. This morning, Friday, Nov. 18, about 11:20 a.m., after tugs put down extra protective barriers under the water for catch debris, and the area was cleared of fishing boats, the explosives were set off. In the video by Sentinel staff member David Nahan, the small concrete remains atop the water are visible before the blast and are gone afterwards. The water appeared to rise more than 45 feet into the air.
