Frederick James Hoffman 85, passed away at home on March 27, 2019. Born in Wildwood, NJ, formerly of Philadelphia, PA, he had been an Ocean City, NJ resident for over 30 years. Mr. Hoffman graduated from West Chester State University. Mr. Hoffman worked as a teacher at Williamstown High School, and as a teacher, and coach for Upper Moreland Sr. High School. He also played for the Milwaukee Braves Organization as a pitcher. Mr. Hoffman was very active in the community, he served as an elected official on the school board for many years, and along with his wife Joan was a dedicated volunteer to many organizations. 

Fred Hoffman was first and foremost a loving father, and husband, and was forever devoted to his family. Mr. Hoffman was an influential teacher always helping to shape his students into the best they could be. Coach Hoffman was passionate about the game of baseball, and had a way of bringing out the best in his players. He was larger than life, and was an inspiration to all he came to know. Fred had a loving, caring spirit, full of compassion and humanity. As a gentleman, a leader, and role model, he encouraged all to always give their best in life. Fred was a teacher of life’s lessons, a modern day philosopher, a real renaissance man. He shared many inspirational sayings, one of his favorites was “The greatest joy is in the struggle not the final victory”. Fred was a wonderful husband, father, son, brother, teacher, and coach. He could roar like a lion, was tough, yet fair. He was a tremendous influence to so many, and touched all that knew him. Fred Hoffman was most of all a kind, caring man, with a huge heart. Fred was a treasure, he made the world a better place, and will be missed.

Survivors include four children, Deana Muggleworth (Ken) of Rio Grande, NJ, Frederick Hoffman, III (Andrea) of Peru, NY, Darla Stewart (John) of Lehighton, PA, Bruce Hoffman of Philadelphia, PA, a sister Carol Landherr (Chuck) of Wildwood, NJ, nephew, Corey Landherr, one grandchild, Carah, a sister in law, Betty Ann Bobier (Tony) of San Francisco, CA, a sister in law, Dottie Borton of Jenkintown, PA, nieces Jessica, and Erin, nephews Scott, and Dan. He is predeceased by his loving wife Joan, his parents Frederick and Rose Pitts Hoffman, his nephew Craig Landherr, and his grandson Frederick “Fritz” Hoffman.

A service of Memory and Love will be offered Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at 10:30 am, at The Baptist Church of Ocean City, NJ, 10th and Wesley.
