George Thomas Bauder, 80, of Bonita Springs, Fl died October 29, 2019 at home. George was born July 25, 1939 in Philadelphia Pa, the only child of Wilson and Kathryn (Sladek) Bauder. He had been a resident of Bonita Springs since moving from Ocean City, NJ in 2012.

George earned a basketball scholarship to attend LaSalle College in Philadelphia, PA., graduating in 1961. Prior to that, he attended St. Ambrose School in Olney, and then LaSalle High School, where he lettered in several sports, including basketball. George made many lifelong friends on the court, playing basketball and later tennis, racquetball and paddle ball for much of his life.

After college, he worked as a trader for Boenning & Scattergood, Inc. in Philadelphia. George then spent the next 25 years in the transportation industry in Philadelphia and Chicago, culminating in his founding Bauder Enterprises, a transportation services company based in Philadelphia.

Upon retirement, George headed straight to the Jersey Shore, where he spent many happy hours perfecting his game of horseshoes on the beach and regaling his friends and family with jokes and stories on his front porch well into the night.

George is survived by his wife Christine (Dunham) Bauder. George has 7 children, 5 children in-law and 16 grandchildren. His children, their spouses and grandchildren are: Christopher Bauder (Mary (spouse), William, Luke, Owen) of Lake Forest, IL, Gwen Travelstead (William (spouse), Katie, Lindsey, Thomas) of Gurnee, IL, Elizabeth (Eric (spouse), Austin, Sara) Margarida of Centerville, VA, Diane (Peter Jr. (spouse), Peter III, Kristin, Megan) Grumhaus of Lake Bluff, IL, Matthew (deceased, 1967), Laurie Bauder (Summer, Kai, Torrey) of Seattle, WA. and Allyson (Patrick (spouse), Isabela, Lucy) Donnelly of Hingham, MA.

His only request every birthday and Christmas was for happy children. A Celebration of Life will be held in Ocean City NJ in June, 2020.

His family wants to thank Hope Hospice of Lee County FL for their tender care that made the last steps of his journey much more comfortable.
