Joanne M. “Dodie” Asher, 90, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2019 in Naples, FL. She was married to Chester A. “Bud” Asher, sharing nearly 70 years of marriage and 4 years of courtship before marrying on Bud’s 21st birthday. Born to the late Charles and Eleanor McCutcheon in Philadelphia, PA, Dodie attended Hood College (her mother’s alma mater) and later transferred to Beaver College to be closer to Bud. Together they built an awesome family, and family was the center of Dodie’s world. In addition to her loving husband, Dodie is survived by her children: Chet Asher (Lori), Josie Musch (Rich), Mark Asher (Sue); grandchildren Erica Cura (Tim), Lee Asher (Lauren), Paige Miller (Jimmy), Jill Asher, Audrey Asher; great-grandchildren Ben Cura, Isabel Asher, Alex Asher and Haley Cura.

Dodie and Bud raised their family in Fort Washington, PA, spending summers in Ocean City, NJ. In the early 70’s, they bought a fixer upper in Ocean City, and it was the family headquarters for 45 years. Dodie was so very proud that Mark designed and Chet built the house when they did a complete remodel prior to their retirement. Dodie and Bud were members of the Ocean City Yacht Club and Greate Bay Country Club for several years where they made many lifelong friends and had a heck of a lot of fun!

They became snowbirds in the early 90’s, spending winters at their home at Worthington CC in Bonita Springs, FL. Dodie was active with golf and bridge, and they spent many happy years there, always looking forward to visits from the kids and grandkids. They became full time Floridians in 2014, eventually moving to retirement living at Aston Gardens in Naples.

Dodie was a vivacious blond with a great sense of humor and goodness that endeared her to so many. She was a beach lover, often reminiscing about the happy days that she and the “Beach Ladies” spent on the beach in Ocean City, while the kids played nearby and later on, when the grandkids started arriving. An avid reader, she was simply never without a book in her hand or nearby. Dodie was adored by her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, dear OC neighbors and her many, many friends. There will be a Celebration of her Life to be held at a future date in Ocean City, NJ.
