September 21st

1869 – Walter C. Sooy, M.D. was born in Absecon.  After graduating from Atlantic City High School, Sooy attended Hahnemann Medical College in Philadelphia.  (The college was named after Samuel Hahnemann, the founder of homeopathy.)  Sooy became a homeopathic doctor in Atlantic City and had a highly successful practice.  He was active in the resort’s Homeopathic Club and helped attract homeopathic conventions to the resort.  At the time, many viewed homeopathy as safer and more successful than traditional medical.
