April 13th

1849 – Richard Stites operated a hotel across the street from Thomas Beesley’s popular waterfront hotel at Beesley’s Point.  Stites’s hotel was the larger of the two and became quite prosperous. For a time, the area was known as Stites’s Point.  Both hotels were popular for fishing, bathing and sailing and neither is still standing.
