Three things surprised me after I spent a few mornings in Cape May Municipal Court this summer watching my daughter fight a ticket she received after a minor traffic accident.

One, the courtroom proceedings were almost exclusively polite, from the judge down to the people appearing before him, including those appearing via monitor from jail.
