Northfield’s Birch Grove Park is a wooded oasis, a stronghold of nature amid suburban encroachment from every direction — and one of the reasons why many choose to live in the city.

But as budgets get tighter and tighter and services at the park dwindle — City Council has voted to cease providing camping facilities and manning the snack bar and the grounds crew staff has diminished over time — there are fewer people in the park, leading to a potentially dangerous situation for individuals and young children alone.
