The lapping of the waves, the squawking of the seagulls, the flapping of flags at amusement piers, the chattering of the crowd. These are the sounds you’re sure to hear on the Ocean City Boardwalk on a balmy summer night. Add to this the sound of music – from guitars, violins, saxophones – even trumpets.

On a recent Saturday night, I encountered several musicians entertaining Boardwalk strollers from the Music Pier to 14th Street. They played a wide range of music including folk, country, blues, classical, and jazz.  The notes floated through the salt air – a perfect accompaniment to the rhythmic sounds of the sea.
