September 7th  

1726 – The Friends Society (Quakers) met at the home of Richard Somers (1663 – 1760) for the first time.  (Known today as Somers Mansion, 1000 Shore Rd, Somers Point.)  Richard Somers was the son of founder John Somers and grandfather of naval hero Captain Richard Somers.  He is credited with building Somers Mansion.  The Quaker meetings alternated between Somers’ home and a Cape May County location.
