OCEAN CITY – In 1963, Ocean City used private investigators to surreptitiously make purchases on Sundays to see if merchants complied with the blue laws.

The city’s blue laws – ordinance 947 – amended on 1963 via public referendum, made it unlawful for businesses to open, for recreation and bathing on the beach on Sundays.
