OCEAN CITY — If you’re looking to relax on the beach, maybe do some surf fishing and kayaking instead of running amok among the busy downtown or Boardwalk, a home in the city’s Southend may be for you.

That’s because the area between 40th Street, where there’s an Uncle Bill’s Pancake House, and 55th Street, where you’ll find four restaurants and an ice cream parlor near the bridge to Strathmere and points south, is almost exclusively residential. It’s also the narrowest part of the island, just two blocks wide from West Avenue to Central Avenue, so there are fewer people and less traffic on both the streets and the beach.
