ABSECON – It was a bittersweet moment for Mainland Regional’s Kylee Watson Saturday, becoming the Mustangs’ all-time leading scorer in girls basketball, but falling to undefeated Cherokee in a humbling 51-35 loss during the Seagull Classic at Holy Spirit High School.

The 6-4 Watson, one of the best players in New Jersey, did just about all she could, scoring 25 points on 8-of-16 shooting and 7-of-10 free throws. The University of Oregon signee shattered the old record of Angela Evans, who scored 1,629 points from 1983 to 1987.
