LINWOOD – The defending NJSIAA Group III state champion Mainland Regional Mustangs appeared to play with a purpose in the second half, seizing the lead and securing a hard-fought 42-36 win over Middle Township at home first round of the Cape-Atlantic League Basketball Tournament Monday.

The Mustangs (17-5) advance to the CAL semifinals Thursday in Ocean City where the task gets a little bit harder playing No. 1 seed Wildwood Catholic. Like Mainland did with Middle Township, Wildwood Catholic (22-3), led by Gabby Turco, split games with the Panthers during the regular season. The winner of Thursday’s game will make the CAL finals at noon Saturday at Stockton University.
