TOMS RIVER – With the sting of losing to rival Ocean City in the first round of the NJSIAA Group 4 South Jersey playoffs still fresh, Mainland Regional shook off the cobwebs last Thursday in its biggest scoring out of the season in a 47-22 consolation game victory at Toms River South.

Mainland, 9-1, will take the field on Thanksgiving morning for a chance to get 10 wins for the first time since 2008 when they travel to Egg Harbor Township (4-5, 2-2). According to athletic director Michael Gatley, it will be Mainland’s last Thanksgiving Day game because of the structure of the NJSIAA playoff format.
