EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP — The weekly meeting of the Ocean City Senior Golf League took a bit of an unexpected twist. After Dave Carter brought to the table his thoughts about problems with our current way of determining matches each week, as well as league standings, we quickly decided to do away with that whole cumbersome system, and adopt a “Low Net” format. The vote was painless, with no debate that I can recall, and it was unanimous (at least among those of us who had not nodded off).

The way it works is very simple, verified by the fact that I understand it. Only net scores (gross scores minus handicaps) matter. Weekly awards will go to the players with the top three net scores of the day. Those with higher handicaps are just as likely now to be the “Champion Golfer of the Week” as the best golfers are.
